- Committee Resigns en masse
- Rules Altered During Placements
- Recruitment Process Faces Uncertainty
- Allegations Rock Campus
Article Today, Bangaluru:
A major controversy has emerged at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangaluru, one of the country’s premier management schools, casting a shadow over its 2026 placement process. The entire 20 member student placement committee resigned earlier this month following serious allegations of irregularities in recruitment rules. The development has triggered widespread concern among students preparing for campus placements.
Rule Change Sparks Outrage
The controversy centres on an alleged modification of a key placement rule during the ongoing recruitment cycle. According to complaints raised by students, the change was designed to benefit a few ineligible candidates linked to the placement committee. However, this alteration reportedly compromised the fairness and transparency of the process. As a result, anger spread rapidly across the campus, with many students accusing the committee of abusing its position.

Mass Resignation of Committee
Amid mounting pressure, all members of the student placement committee submitted their resignations simultaneously. In a communication addressed to the Career Development Services office and fellow students, the committee confirmed that all placement related activities for the 2026 batch had been suspended until further notice. Therefore, the student led placement mechanism at the institute came to a complete halt.
Placement Process Disrupted
The sudden suspension has caused significant disruption to the recruitment calendar. Several companies scheduled to visit the campus are now facing uncertainty regarding interviews, slot allocations, and document verification. Meanwhile, students awaiting lateral and final placements are struggling with anxiety, as the interruption comes at a critical stage of their job search.
Institute Orders Internal Review
In response to the crisis, the IIM Bangalore administration stated that the matter is under internal review. It emphasised that student welfare and institutional values remain central to its functioning. However, the institute has not disclosed details about the specific rule change or the individuals who allegedly benefited. This lack of clarity has led to questions about accountability and oversight.
Concerns Over Supervision
Faculty supervision of the placement process has also come under scrutiny. Critics argue that tighter monitoring could have prevented the situation from escalating. In addition, with pre placement activities already underway and final interviews expected in the coming months, delays may adversely affect students’ career prospects. The outcome of the internal inquiry is now awaited, as hundreds of candidates look for clarity and reassurance.
