Police Brutality on Dalits Is a Human Rights Violation

  • Advocate Filed a Complaint with NHRC
  • Nationwide Protests Against Police Attack

Strong protests are happening across the state after a shocking police attack on three Dalit men in Tenali. People are angry and demanding justice for the victims who were beaten badly by police officers on a public road.

Lawyer Files Complaint with NHRC
High Court advocate Seeloju Shiva Kumar from Hyderabad has filed a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). He met NHRC member Vijayabharathi in Delhi on Wednesday and gave a written petition.

Basic Rights Violated, Says Advocate
In his complaint, Shiva Kumar said the police broke important rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. These include the right to life and freedom (Article 21), the right to equality (Article 14), and protection from abuse in custody (Article 22(1)).

What Happened in Tenali?

On April 27, three men named John Victor, Rakesh, and Babulal were arrested by Tenali police. They were accused of attacking a constable named Chiranjeevi. Instead of following legal procedures, the police took them to Ithanagar and beaten them.

Shocking Video Shows Public Beating
A video shared on social media shows 2 Town CI Ramulu Naik and 3 Town CI S. Ramesh Babu hitting the men on their legs with sticks. One man collapsed in pain, but CI Ramulu Naik kicked him with his boots. All this happened in broad daylight on the road.

Victims Belong to SC and Minority Communities
Two of the arrested men belong to the Scheduled Caste community, and the third is from a minority group. People are questioning why legal steps were ignored and why the police used violence instead.

Public Questions Police Behavior
Many are asking, “Even if someone does something wrong, do police have the right to beat them?” Human rights groups are saying the police should have taken the men to court and follow the legal procedure, not to beaten them.

Lawyer Demands Strong Action
Advocate Shiva Kumar requested the NHRC to take serious steps. He asked for a report from the Andhra Pradesh DGP and demanded an independent inquiry by a retired judge or neutral agency. He further suggested that all police stations should have working CCTV cameras to stop such incidents from happening again.

Call for Police Suspension and Legal Case
Shiva Kumar said the officers involved must be suspended and charged under the Indian Penal Code. He also said the victims should be paid compensation because their rights were violated.

All Eyes on NHRC and State Government
The country is watching closely to see how the NHRC and Andhra Pradesh government will respond. Human rights defenders are urging quick and fair action to ensure justice is delivered.
