Article Today, Hyderabad:
One of the most awaited films for Telugu cinema lovers, Thug Life, starring the legendary actor Kamal Haasan, is all set for a grand theatrical release worldwide on June 5. Directed by the iconic filmmaker Mani Ratnam, this high-octane gangster drama has already created a massive buzz across the country through its promotional content. With popular actors like Trisha and Simbu playing key roles, expectations are sky-high.
The film is being released in Telugu by Shreshth Movies, the production house led by actor Nithiin’s father, N. Sudhakar Reddy. Known for delivering blockbusters like Vikram and Amaran, the company is now planning a large-scale release for Thug Life as well. To mark the occasion, a grand pre-release event was organized in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
Kamal Haasan’s Emotional Connection with Visakhapatnam
During the pre-release event, Kamal Haasan addressed the audience with deep emotion and warmth. He recalled his early days and spoke about the special bond he shares with the people of Visakhapatnam. “I came to Vizag when I was just 21. Back then, nobody even recognized my face. But it was here that I received so much love,” he shared.
Haasan reminisced about the success of his earlier films like Moondram Pirai (dubbed in Telugu as Vikram), Sagara Sangamam, Ek Duuje Ke Liye, and Subha Sankalpam, some of which were filmed or released in Vizag. “The audience here made Moondram Pirai a huge success. When I did Ek Duuje Ke Liye, Telugu fans proudly said, ‘Our boy made it big in Hindi!’ Vizag has always felt like home,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
A Tribute to Good Cinema and His Loyal Audience
Kamal Haasan, reflecting on his cinematic journey, said, “I’ve made some bad films too, but the audience has chosen to remember only the good ones. It’s my responsibility to give you meaningful cinema. Out of the 15 Telugu films I’ve acted in, 13 were hits. Thug Life is my way of repaying the love you’ve shown me.”
He praised the film’s cast and crew, stating that actor Simbu has delivered a never-seen-before performance. “Abhirami has given a brilliant performance, and my long-time colleague Nassar continues to be a rare and exceptional talent. Trisha, as always, has done a fantastic job. We all believe we’ve made a great film.”
Looking ahead to the film’s release, Kamal concluded his speech with heartfelt anticipation: “June 5 is not just the release date of Thug Life; it’s the day we find out if what we believed and created reaches your hearts. Let’s meet in theatres and celebrate cinema together.”
