- IT Professional Turns Entrepreneur
- Spiritual Retail Scales Rapidly Nationwide
- Technology drives Trust-based Growth
- An Unconventional Transition
Article Today, New Delhi:
A former information technology professional has built a fast-growing spiritual commerce business, challenging conventional ideas of entrepreneurship. Puneet Gupta, who once worked in the corporate technology sector, has successfully entered the faith – based retail market by combining belief-driven demand with digital platforms.
From Engineering to Enterprise
Mr. Gupta completed his engineering education at Thapar University in Punjab and later worked in Mumbai with Nomura. However, his ambition to build an independent venture led him to leave his job and explore opportunities outside mainstream technology services.
Birth of a Spiritual Platform
Initially, Mr. Gupta focused on astrology-based consultations through Astrotalk. Over time, he identified gaps in the spiritual products market, particularly around quality assurance and authenticity. In November 2024, he launched the Astrotalk Store to address these concerns through a structured online marketplace.

Rapid Revenue Growth
Within a year of operations, the platform recorded revenue of about Rs.140 crore, according to company estimates. Meanwhile, the firm is now targeting an annual turnover of Rs.200 crore, reflecting strong consumer demand and repeat purchases in a traditionally fragmented sector.
Expanding Product Range
The online store offers a wide selection of spiritual and religious items, including rudraksha beads, certified gemstones, crystal malas, yantras, and deity idols. In addition, it supplies daily worship essentials such as incense, lamps, turmeric, and vermilion, catering to both routine rituals and specific astrological remedies.

Focus on Authenticity
One of the platform’s distinguishing features is its emphasis on verification. Each product is examined by experienced astrologers and accompanied by certification detailing origin and quality. As a result, customer confidence has increased, contributing to more than 1.6 million orders within a short span.
Technology as an Enabler
Despite operating in a faith-driven market, the venture relies heavily on data analytics and user behaviour insights. The company analyses customer interactions on the app to recommend relevant spiritual products immediately after consultations. Therefore, consumers can access suggested remedies without navigating multiple vendors.
Organising a Fragmented Market
India’s spiritual products sector has long been marked by informality and uneven standards. Mr. Gupta’s approach seeks to introduce structure, transparency, and predictable pricing. By applying technology-led efficiency to a belief-based industry, the company has demonstrated how trust and scale can coexist.
Looking Ahead
As demand for organised spiritual commerce grows, Astrotalk is expected to play a larger role in shaping this niche market. The company’s trajectory suggests that digital tools, when aligned with cultural practices, can unlock new avenues for sustainable business growth.
