- Kaleshwaram Inquiry Puts BRS Under Strain
- Liquor Scam Shadows YSRCP Leadership
Article Today, Hyderabad/Amaravati:
In Telangana, the Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose Commission’s inquiry into irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project has become a major setback for the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Allegations of large-scale corruption in the project prompted the Revanth Reddy government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. Former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former Minister T. Harish Rao are likely to face questioning. Political analysts say the inquiry could lead to arrests of key leaders, marking a serious blow to the BRS and its leadership.
Liquor Scam Shadows YSRCP Leadership
In Andhra Pradesh, the ruling alliance has escalated its attack on the YSR Congress Party over the liquor scam. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has issued notices to several YSRCP leaders and arrested a few in related cases. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, once known for using his party media to target opponents, now finds even his own media organisation under scrutiny. Observers believe these developments are isolating him politically while internal rifts within the party continue to grow.
Crisis Within the BRS
The BRS faces additional turbulence with the suspension of K. Kavitha, daughter of Mr. Chandrashekar Rao. Her resignation from the Legislative Council has deepened the crisis. Speculation is rife about her future political moves, including the possibility of launching a new party. With her name also surfacing in the Kaleshwaram probe, divisions within the family have become more evident, further weakening the party’s structure.
Strategic Moves by Ruling Parties
Meanwhile, ruling parties in both states appear to be pursuing parallel strategies. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy are using the liquor and irrigation scandals as instruments to corner the opposition. These investigations are forcing the BRS and YSRCP into defensive positions. Analysts suggest the outcome of these battles could significantly reshape the political landscape of the Telugu states.
Focus Shifts Away From Public Issues
Critics argue that the intense political focus on corruption cases is diverting attention from pressing public issues such as fertiliser shortages. However, ruling alliances maintain that their priority is accountability and transparency. The coming months are expected to test the resilience of the opposition parties and the effectiveness of the ruling coalition’s strategy.
