- Nationwide Demand for Fresh Elections
Article Today, Hyderabad:
A political storm is sweeping across India over allegations of large-scale vote fraud. Opposition parties have accused the ruling BJP of manipulating elections through irregularities in voter lists. They now demand the dissolution of the Lok Sabha and fresh polls. The controversy has triggered heated debates in political and public circles across several states.

Trinamool Leader’s Explosive Allegations
Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has given the issue new momentum. He alleged that the Election Commission was acting in favour of the BJP. According to him, voter lists across the country contain massive discrepancies, which are aiding the ruling party. He claimed that multiple voters were linked to the same EPIC number, and the Election Commission had this information. Banerjee challenged the BJP to explain why it supported such anomalies. He stressed that this was not a localised problem in Bengal or Bihar but a nationwide issue. He even called for the resignation of all MPs and fresh elections.
Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Vote Theft’ Campaign
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has taken an aggressive stance on the matter. He launched a website named ‘Vote Chori’ (Vote Theft) to highlight the irregularities. The Supreme Court’s censure of the Election Commission over voter list corrections in Bihar has added weight to the opposition’s claims. Rahul cited examples, such as the removal of nearly 65 lakh voters from rolls and fake registrations in Karnataka’s Mahadevapura constituency, backing them with evidence.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Unique Protest
The opposition parties, united under the INDIA alliance, organised a rally from Parliament to the Election Commission office. Leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Priyanka Gandhi were detained briefly before being released. Rahul said this was not merely a political fight but a battle to protect the Constitution. A glaring example, the listing of a Bihar voter named Minta Devi as 124 years old, became a symbolic protest point. Priyanka Gandhi wore specially designed T-shirts highlighting the issue during demonstrations inside Parliament.

Public and Legal Pressure Mount
The Supreme Court’s observations on the functioning of the Election Commission and the opposition’s protests have intensified public attention on the matter. The Commission’s claim that it has no obligation to publish lists of deleted voters and that voters have no rights once their names are removed has drawn sharp criticism. Opposition leaders insist that every vote is vital in a democracy and that such irregularities pose a grave threat to democratic processes.
Political Fallout Across States
In various states, losing candidates and parties have joined the uproar, blaming vote theft for their defeats. Movements and protests over alleged fake or missing votes are gaining momentum. With the issue resonating both politically and publicly, the coming days may see significant developments.
