Telangana Employees’ Anger

The United Joint Action Committee of Employees, Gazetted Officers, Teachers, and Pensioners (TGEJAC) in Telangana has decided to launch a movement to press for the resolution of their long-pending issues. A day-long meeting was held at the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Hyderabad, where thousands of employees from across the state gathered to express their frustration with the government’s apathy.

Government Warned of Stir
The employees have warned the government that if their demands are not met, they will launch a direct agitation after June 9. The meeting, attended by leaders from all 33 districts, Hyderabad city, and the Secretariat JAC Committee, was marked by widespread discontent among employees.

Key Demands…

  • Immediate Release of Interim Relief and DA Arrears: The employees are demanding the immediate release of interim relief (IR) and dearness allowance (DA) arrears, which have been pending since July 1 last year and January 1, 2023, respectively.
  • Clearance of Pending Bills: The employees are seeking the clearance of all pending bills from 2022 and the restoration of the treasury-based bill payment system, scrapping the e-Kuber system.
  • Implementation of Telangana PRC: The employees are demanding the implementation of the second Telangana Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations with a 51% fitment, in line with the rise in prices.
  • Health Scheme: The employees are seeking the implementation of the Employees Health Scheme (EHS) with equal contributions from the government and beneficiaries.
  • HRA and Transportation Facilities: The employees are demanding the grant of 24% House Rent Allowance (HRA) to employees at Kongar Kalan and the provision of transportation facilities.
  • Teachers’ Demands: The teachers are seeking notional increments for special teachers and special allowances for faculty doctors working in government medical colleges in remote areas.
  • Anganwadi Demands: The Anganwadi workers are seeking voluntary retirement benefits, increased retirement benefits, and ex-gratia payments for those who die in service.
  • Disabled Employees’ Demands: The disabled employees are seeking the establishment of a corporation for disabled persons and the implementation of pending PRC recommendations.
