The protests against Sakshi media in Andhra Pradesh are continuing to escalate. On Tuesday, a protest rally was held in Eluru as part of these ongoing agitations. During the rally, a group of miscreants set fire to the Sakshi office in the city. In the incident, the office furniture and sofas were completely burnt, and a car parked nearby was also entirely destroyed.
YSRCP Blames TDP for Attack
Following the attack, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) accused the leaders of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of carrying out the assault with political vengeance. The YSRCP strongly condemned the violent action and alleged that the attack was a deliberate attempt to target Sakshi media, which is known to support their party’s voice.
Sakshi Editor Condemns the Incident
R. Dhanunjaya Reddy, Editor of Sakshi newspaper, strongly condemned the Eluru attack. He demanded that the police should immediately arrest the culprits and ensure they are strictly punished under the law. He called for swift action to prevent such incidents from recurring and urged the authorities to protect media offices and journalists from targeted violence.
South India Media Association Reacts
The South India Media Association (SIMA) also expressed serious concern over the attacks on Sakshi. In a statement released in Hyderabad, SIMA President Ravi and General Secretary Srinivas jointly condemned the incidents. They said that while everyone has the right to protest in a democracy, attacking media offices is highly unacceptable and against democratic principles.
Appeal to CM Chandrababu Naidu
The media body urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to immediately intervene and take necessary steps to stop these attacks on Sakshi offices across the state. They emphasized that political differences should never lead to violence against the press and called for the protection of freedom of expression.
