Article Today, Hyderabad:
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that Telangana would compete with global hubs such as New York and Dubai if he is given ten years at the helm. He announced that the “Future City” project would have high-speed connectivity to Bengaluru and that the State had already secured approval from the Centre for a bullet train link. His comments were made during the foundation ceremony of the project.
Unease in the Congress Ranks
The assertion has unsettled senior leaders within the Congress. In the past, similar remarks from Mr. Reddy, declaring himself Chief Minister for a decade, had sparked criticism from senior legislators, including Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy. Party leaders had then clarified that the final decision on the leadership rests with the high command. The repetition of such remarks has once again triggered dissatisfaction among senior members.
Opposition in Disarray
Despite internal murmurs, political analysts note that Mr. Reddy is operating in a favourable environment. The BRS, once the dominant force, is weakened by internal conflicts. Reports of differences between K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, alongside K. Kavitha’s reported plans to launch a separate party, have added to the turmoil. The BJP, meanwhile, has struggled to expand its influence in the State. These developments have created conditions that allow the Chief Minister to consolidate his political position.
Strategy Beyond the State
Mr. Reddy has linked his long-term plan with the national prospects of the Congress. His associates emphasise that a resurgent Congress under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership would strengthen his own position in Telangana. By launching large-scale projects such as the “Future City,” while leveraging the weaknesses of the opposition, the Chief Minister seeks to present himself as a durable leader capable of steering the State through the next decade.
