Article Today, New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday levelled serious allegations against the Election Commission. He claimed that large-scale irregularities had taken place in the voter list after the 2024 general elections. He alleged that the Commission was complicit in these actions, sparking a nationwide political debate.
Millions Missing From Rolls
Mr. Rahul Gandhi said there were significant changes in the rolls after the elections. Over one crore new voters were added in States like Maharashtra and Karnataka, he claimed. At the same time, 52 lakh voters were removed in Bihar. He argued that such large-scale changes were not normal and posed a threat to democracy.
Lack of Response From the Commission
The Congress leader accused the Election Commission of ignoring repeated requests for information. He said the party had sought copies of voter lists and CCTV footage but received no response. He questioned official claims that 65 lakh people voted in Maharashtra within two hours, pointing out that each vote takes about three minutes on average.
Warning of a Threat to Democracy
Mr. Gandhi alleged that these irregularities were part of a larger conspiracy to undermine the electoral process. He claimed the ruling party was also involved. “We have full evidence of this manipulation, and we are ready to make it public,” he declared. He criticised the Election Commission for failing to act and for being afraid of the truth.
INDIA Bloc’s United Backing
The allegations were presented during a meeting of the INDIA bloc leaders through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. According to the Congress, the presentation included documentary evidence. INDIA bloc leaders vowed to fight to protect democratic values and ensure electoral transparency.
Appeal to The Public
Mr. Gandhi urged citizens to recognise the threat posed by these alleged malpractices. He called on the public to resist any attempt to subvert democracy. He demanded that the Election Commission fulfil its duty and act with transparency. His statements have triggered intense political discussion across the country.
