- Sudhakar Reddy’s Body Given to GMC; Red Army’s Last Salute

Communist stalwart and former CPI General Secretary, Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, received a solemn farewell on Sunday. His mortal remains were honoured with official state rituals before being handed over to Gandhi Medical College, fulfilling his last wish.

Grand Farewell with Official Honours
The funeral procession began with police presenting official honours. Soon after, the Red Army led a ceremonial march through the streets. Members of the Prajanatya Mandali sang revolutionary songs, while crowds raised slogans of “Suravaram Amar Rahe”. Thousands of mourners, leaders, and citizens joined the procession with tearful eyes.
Final Journey Through City Streets
The procession moved through key areas such as Chikkadpally, Narayanaguda, and Musheerabad. Along the route, people lined the streets to pay their last respects. Admirers, party workers, and ordinary citizens walked alongside the cortege, recalling his decades-long public life and contribution to people’s movements.
Body Dedicated to Medical Research
True to his lifelong commitment to public service, Mr. Reddy had willed that his body be donated for medical education. Accordingly, his wife Dr. B.V. Vijayalakshmi and sons Kapil and Nikhil formally handed over the body to Gandhi Medical College.
Knowledge for Future Generations
College Principal Professor Indira, along with senior faculty members, said the donation would greatly aid medical students. They noted that the body would serve as an invaluable resource for anatomical research and training, enabling future doctors to gain practical knowledge.
Leaders Pay Tribute
Before the handover, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy paid floral tributes. CPI General Secretary D. Raja, CPM General Secretary M.A. Baby, CPI leaders K. Narayana and Syed Aziz Pasha, and state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao also paid homage. They hailed Mr. Reddy as a lifelong crusader for people’s rights and a symbol of progressive politics.
