The much-awaited release of ‘OG’ has been marred by large-scale black ticketing in Hyderabad. With expectations high and fans eager to watch the first shows, allegations have emerged that a senior producer is behind the organised sale of tickets at inflated prices. Fans of actor Pawan Kalyan expressed frustration, claiming that their enthusiasm is being exploited for financial gain.
Violation of Ticketing Rules
The Telangana government has fixed the ceiling for ticket prices at Rs.800. Despite this, reports indicate that tickets for single-screen theatres are being resold for over Rs.2,000. Sources allege that tickets for theatres such as Sudarshan 35mm, Devi, Viswanath, and Sriramulu were diverted into black sales, generating over Rs.1 crore in profit for those involved.
Premieres at Inflated Prices
Premier show tickets were reportedly sold out in advance through this network. Multiplexes are said to have been influenced to fix their tickets at Rs.800, while single-screen tickets were released into black markets. The strategy, according to insiders, ensured huge margins. The practice directly contravenes state guidelines on cinema ticket pricing.
Fans Express Discontent
Fans allege that tickets are being resold offline for Rs.3,000 to Rs.4,000. This, in turn, has affected online sales, with platforms also reflecting inflated rates. They claim that multiplex tickets are only made available online once single-screen tickets are exhausted in black sales. As a result, many genuine fans are unable to watch the film on the first day, first show.
Demand for Government Action
Pawan Kalyan’s supporters have voiced strong anger over the developments. They argue that the black ticketing mafia is undermining the cinema-going experience and damaging the credibility of the industry. They urged the Telangana government to intervene immediately and curb the illegal trade to protect the interests of moviegoers.
