Mosque Near Ayodhya

Article Today, Ayodhya:

Thirty-three years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992, Ayodhya is witnessing another significant moment in its long and complex religious history. While the Ram temple now stands completed and functional at the disputed site, preparations are underway for the construction of a new mosque on land allotted by the Supreme Court. The development marks a symbolic phase in the post-verdict process of reconciliation.

Land Allotted as per Court Order
Following its landmark judgment, the Supreme Court had directed that five acres of alternative land be provided to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque. Accordingly, the Uttar Pradesh government allotted land in Dhannipur village on the outskirts of Ayodhya. The site is now being readied for construction under the supervision of the Indian Muslim Waqf Trust.

Construction Timeline and Design
According to the Trust’s president, Jameel Ahmed, groundwork for the project is expected to begin by April 2026. The mosque will be built using a blend of Indian and Islamic architectural styles. In addition to the prayer hall, the complex will include a library and community facilities aimed at public welfare and inter-community engagement.

Estimated Cost and Funding
The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 100 crore. The Trust plans to mobilise resources through donations and institutional support. Officials associated with the project have stated that transparency in fundraising and execution will be maintained throughout the construction process.

Political and Social Context
Meanwhile, the proposed construction has triggered fresh political debate across the country. While some view it as a step towards constitutional balance and social harmony, others see it through a broader political lens. Security agencies are closely monitoring developments to ensure that law and order is maintained during all phases of construction.

Prime Minister’s Message on Harmony
On the anniversary of the 1992 demolition, peace meetings were held in several parts of the country. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a message on social media, describing India as a nation rooted in harmony and peace. The Trust has described the mosque project as a symbol of coexistence in a city that has remained at the centre of a historic dispute.

Significance for Ayodhya
Ayodhya has emerged as a major religious centre following the inauguration of the Ram temple. The upcoming mosque project adds a new dimension to the city’s evolving identity. Political observers believe the parallel presence of both religious structures could shape future discourse on secularism and social unity in the country.
