- Focus on Oil Palm Expansion in Telangana
Article Today, Siddipeta: The Telangana government is accelerating its efforts to expand oil palm cultivation and processing infrastructure across the state. As part of this initiative, a team of state ministers reviewed the ongoing works of the oil palm factory at Narmetta in Siddipet district on Friday.
High-Level Visit and Field Inspection
Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Damodar Raja Narasimha conducted an in-depth inspection of the factory site in Narmetta village under Nangunur mandal. Before this, they visited a large-scale oil palm plantation in Komurareddy’s farm at Samudrala village in Koheda mandal. There, they interacted directly with farmers to understand their challenges and the current status of cultivation.
Call for Timely Completion of Factory
During the visit, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao issued key instructions to officials. He emphasized that the construction of the power plant within the factory premises must be completed swiftly. The minister set a target to finish the entire factory infrastructure by the first week of August to ensure timely support to farmers.
Push for District-Level Processing Facilities
Minister Tummala stressed the importance of operational oil palm processing units in all former districts of Telangana. He underlined the need for each region to have accessible infrastructure for refining and packing. To this end, he directed officials to immediately call for tenders related to the construction of refinery and packaging units.
Strategic Steps for Farmer Support
The ministers’ visit reflects the government’s strategic approach to promote self-reliance in edible oil production. With increasing cultivation under oil palm, the timely establishment of processing units is seen as a crucial step to boost farmer income and reduce dependency on imported oil. The visit concluded with assurances that the government will continue monitoring progress and extend all necessary support to farmers engaged in oil palm cultivation.
