Mahaveer Medical College Inspection Halted

Mahaveer College Holds Fake Patients

Article Today, Hyderabad

The scheduled inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC) at Mahaveer Private Medical College in Vikarabad was abruptly halted on Thursday following shocking revelations of malpractice. Reports published in Sahanam Vande, Article Today digital newspapers exposed the college’s elaborate preparations to deceive NMC officials, prompting the commission to postpone its visit.

NMC Halts Inspection Following Media Reports

The Sahanam Vande articles, which detailed the college’s fraudulent strategies, reached the attention of the NMC Chairman, who reportedly took serious note of the issue. The early leak of inspection schedules and the exposure of the college’s preparation forced the NMC to withdraw from the planned inspection, raising questions about procedural lapses within the regulatory body.

Fake Patients Prepared to Mislead Inspectors

The management of Mahaveer Medical College had made extensive arrangements to present a false picture to the NMC team. According to sources, nearly 80 fake patients were brought in from various places using transport lorries. Each was reportedly paid ₹2,000 per day. The management ensured that these individuals were well-fed, providing them with breakfast, biryani for lunch, and liquor in the evenings for those who consumed alcohol.

The deception went even further. Fake medical case sheets were prepared with detailed histories matching specific illnesses, and the recruited individuals were given training on how to present themselves convincingly as real patients during the inspection. Heads of various departments were also quickly assembled to create a scene resembling a fully functioning hospital, similar to a film set prepared for a shoot.

Attempts to Secure Additional Seats

Mahaveer Medical College had reportedly applied to the NMC to increase its MBBS intake and introduce postgraduate courses. The inspections were part of this expansion process. However, allegations surfaced that the college lacked the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support the additional seats. Reports also claimed that the college management attempted to manipulate some NMC officials, allegedly offering bribes of nearly ₹2 crore to secure favourable inspection outcomes. It was further reported that an understanding was reached to pay another ₹2 crore after the entire process was successfully completed.

Past Violations and Student Concerns

This is not the first time the college has faced regulatory trouble. Three years ago, the NMC had revoked its approval for failing to meet required standards during a previous inspection. Despite this setback, students claim that the management continued with the same unethical practices, showing little regard for necessary reforms.

Students also expressed concern over how NMC officials had prior knowledge of the inspection dates and questioned whether this advance information was intentionally leaked. The situation has led to serious doubts about the integrity of the inspection process.

College Holds Fake Patients in Anticipation of Further Inspections

Although Thursday’s inspection was cancelled, there were indications that NMC officials might revisit the college on Friday. As a precaution, the college management reportedly instructed the fake patients to remain on campus, keeping them ready for another potential inspection attempt.

The entire episode has not only exposed the manipulation attempts by the college but also raised uncomfortable questions about possible collusion within the regulatory framework. It remains to be seen how the NMC will respond to these revelations and whether stricter actions will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
