- TWJF Urges Resolve Long-Pending Issues
- Key Demands of Journalists
Article Today, Hyderabad: The Telangana Working Journalists’ Federation (TWJF) has urged the state government to immediately address the pressing problems faced by Journalists across Telangana. The federation submitted their requests to the newly appointed Special Commissioner on Friday.
Federation Meets Special Commissioner
A delegation from TWJF met IAS officer Ch. Priyanka, who recently took charge as the Special Commissioner at the Samachar Bhavan in Hyderabad. The federation congratulated her on her new role. During the meeting, the TWJF representatives highlighted several key issues concerning the welfare and professional rights of journalists.
Key Demands of Journalists
TWJF State General Secretary B. Basavapunnaiah, along with other members, requested the Special Commissioner to prioritise the regularisation of accreditations and the timely distribution of health cards. They also raised the long-standing demand for housing plots for journalists and the introduction of a pension scheme for retired media professionals. The federation stressed the need for a dedicated protection law to ensure journalists’ safety in the line of duty. They also appealed for the strict implementation of the Wage Board recommendations and sought improved transportation facilities for women journalists.
Concerns Over Discrimination and Accreditation Process
The TWJF criticised the repeated revalidation of accreditation stickers, saying the process should not be extended for the fourth time. They demanded that journalists be included under the government’s newly introduced health schemes. The federation also pointed out the discrimination faced by journalists in the training programmes offered by the Media Academy and called for fair and inclusive practices.
Call for Media Commission
The delegation urged the government to set up a Media Commission to address the concerns of working journalists and monitor the welfare measures more effectively. They emphasised that the commission could play a crucial role in improving the working conditions of journalists and ensuring accountability in the media sector.
