  • JIPMER, Puducherry to Pioneer

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry has embarked on a pioneering initiative. For the first time in India, JIPMER will introduce an integrated medical course combining MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery). The primary goal of this course is to harmonize modern medical science with traditional Ayurvedic treatment methods.

Course in Preliminary Stage…
This integrated course is currently in its preliminary stage. JIPMER is actively involved in designing a brand new syllabus for this program. The syllabus will be structured to include aspects of modern medical science from MBBS along with herbal medicine, diagnosis, and treatment methods from Ayurveda. This will enable students to gain expertise in both medical systems, aiming to provide comprehensive treatment to patients. The course will equip doctors with the ability to understand traditional Ayurvedic principles and utilize modern medical technologies. This initiative is expected to mark a significant milestone in the Indian medical system.

Future Plans…
Details regarding the implementation of this course are yet to be finalized. Once the syllabus design is complete, JIPMER will officially announce the course structure, duration, admission process, and other relevant information. If this course is successfully implemented, it will serve as a guiding model for other medical colleges to introduce similar integrated programs.
