Article Today, Hyderabad:
Vijayanagaram MP, Kalishetty Appalanayudu, is a people’s representative whose political journey has been nothing short of surprising. Aspiring initially to become an MLA, he went on to enter Parliament as an MP—an unexpected turn that left many stunned. After winning, he visited Tirupati for blessings before proceeding to Delhi. Without a prior appointment, he managed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and handed him Tirupati prasadam—a gesture that surprised several MPs. Appalanayudu attributes these extraordinary experiences in his life to a powerful book The Secret’. In an exclusive conversation with Article Today, he shared how the book transformed his outlook and political career.

Article Today: Mr. Appalanayudu, when did you first hear about The Secret?
Appalanayudu: A friend introduced me to this book during a difficult phase in my political career, when I had to make some tough decisions. He suggested I read it. After going through it, I realized how important it is to control one’s thoughts.
Article Today: Could you tell us why this book holds so much significance for you?
Appalanayudu: The Secret, written by Rhonda Byrne, has changed millions of lives worldwide. At its core is the concept of the Law of Attraction. It teaches that whatever we strongly think about, or deeply desire, manifests in our lives. Released in 2006, it has been translated into over 50 languages and sold more than 30 million copies globally. It’s also available in Telugu under the title Rahasya.
Article Today: The book emphasizes the Law of Attraction. How has this principle worked for you?
Appalanayudu: I firmly believe in moving forward with positive thoughts. The Law of Attraction echoes the same. When you think positively, good opportunities come your way. In politics too, this has been true for me. With a deep desire to serve people, opportunities naturally aligned themselves in my favor.
Article Today: The book talks about three steps—Ask, Believe, Receive. Did these steps bring changes in your life? Could you share an example?
Appalanayudu: Absolutely. These three steps have had a profound impact on my life. For instance, I strongly believed that I must enter the legislature this time. I convinced myself that it would happen and visualized it. Many doubted me, but I never lost hope. Despite challenges, I achieved what I had set my mind on. With the blessings of Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh, I became an MP. My positive outlook guided me all along.
Article Today: In the past election, you sought the Etcherla Assembly seat, which eventually went to the BJP. How did you deal with that setback?
Appalanayudu: Even then, I never lost faith. I believed some opportunity would come my way. I spent a few days in Hyderabad with my family, relaxed, and returned. Soon after, something unexpected happened—I was offered a much bigger opportunity. I was given the MP ticket from Vijayanagaram. That was beyond what I had even imagined.

Article Today: After winning, how did you manage to meet the Prime Minister without an appointment?
Appalanayudu: Right after my victory, I carried Tirupati prasadam to the Prime Minister’s residence. Security initially denied me entry, as I didn’t have an appointment. I told them, “I have just won as MP and I want to give this prasadam to Modi ji.” They conveyed this to the PM’s office. I don’t know what miracle happened, but the Prime Minister called me in. I personally handed over the prasadam, and he spoke to me for five minutes. I had believed it would happen—and it did. That’s the magic of The Secret.
Article Today: The book stresses the importance of gratitude. How do you practice it in your daily life?
Appalanayudu: Every morning, I thank the people who supported me and the opportunities I have received. Gratitude has made me humble. It reduces arrogance and helps me understand the struggles of others better.
Article Today: Visualization—clearly imagining one’s goals—is another concept from the book. Did you practice it?
Appalanayudu: Yes, very much. During my election campaign, I often visualized myself addressing huge gatherings and winning the trust of the people. Those mental pictures gave me confidence. And confidence attracts belief from the people. That belief brought me victory.
Article Today: How many times have you read The Secret?
Appalanayudu: I’ve read it at least a hundred times. Every time I read it, I discover something new. Interestingly, I even saw The Secret kept inside a cabinet at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence.
