Article Today, Hyderabad: In a determined bid to serve as the voice of the public, the Hyderabad Region Development Authority (HYDRAA) organized a special grievance redressal programme, titled Prajavani, under the leadership of Commissioner A.V. Ranganath. Held on Monday, the session received 58 complaints from residents, mainly highlighting land encroachments, illegal occupation of public utility spaces, and road blockages.
Commissioner Acts on the Spot
Commissioner Ranganath personally reviewed each complaint, using online tools such as Google Maps, town layouts, NRS SC data, and Survey of India records. In the presence of complainants, he issued direct orders to Asset Protection Officers for field inspections. In several cases, he set clear deadlines for resolving the issues.
Kuruma Community Raises Concern Over Lost Cremation Land
Representatives of the Telangana Kurum Association voiced distress over a historic burial site. They alleged that a 2,000 square yard land, once allocated for a cremation ground near Boyiguda in Secunderabad during the municipal regime, has now been encroached. The site, they claimed, holds the graves of their ancestors but has been taken over for unauthorized constructions. Leaders like Chira Suchitra, the corporator of Ramgopalpet Division, and Chira Srikanth, Vice President of the state-level Kurum Association, urged the authorities to recover and protect the land.
Residents Demand Protection of Layout-Designated Park
Citizens of Sri Sai Krishna Colony in Bachupally, Qutbullapur Mandal, submitted complaints to safeguard a 1,700 square yard park space. The area is part of a 4.8-acre approved layout. While municipal officials had begun fencing work, alleged encroachers took the matter to court and halted the activity. The residents pleaded for the park to be preserved, stressing the need for open space for children to play.
Encroached Road in Gandipet Panchayat Sparks Dispute
Locals from Survey Number 69 in Gandipet Panchayat reported illegal occupation of a 25-foot-wide road marked in the official layout. They claimed that certain individuals are threatening them while falsely asserting ownership over the road. Though utility poles and drinking water pipelines run along the stretch, the occupants argue that it is not a road. As a result, hundreds of families have lost access.
3500 Sq Yards of Public Land Under Threat
In Bhagath Singh Nagar of Qutbullapur Mandal, a 3,500 square yard land parcel, earmarked for public utility, is now facing encroachment. The Government Hospital Land Protection Committee raised alarm during the session, stating that GHMC had already allocated funds for a hospital at the site. They requested urgent action to prevent further land grabbing and to proceed with the planned hospital construction.
