  • Growing Sale of Expired Oil Across the State

Article Today, Hyderabad: The sale of expired branded cooking oil packets has triggered widespread concern across Telangana. Traders, ignoring public health, continue to sell outdated products, drawing strong criticism from consumers and local communities.

Shocking Customer Experience Uncovers the Issue

The alarming practice came to light when a consumer in Nirmal purchased oil packets to prepare a meal at home. To his surprise, he later found that the expiry date on the packets had passed a month earlier. Shocked by this discovery, he immediately approached the shopkeeper to demand an explanation.

Careless Response from the Trader

The shopkeeper’s reaction was even more disturbing. When questioned, the trader dismissively told the customer that consuming expired oil would not cause any harm. He even went so far as to challenge the consumer, saying, “Come to my home. I will cook with the same oil and eat it in front of you.” This arrogant and irresponsible attitude has deeply angered the local community.

Residents of Nirmal are now demanding strict action against such traders who are risking public health for profit. A video of the conversation between the customer and the shopkeeper is currently circulating on social media, further fueling public outrage.

Growing Sale of Expired Oil Across the State

The misuse of expired cooking oil is not limited to Nirmal. Reports suggest that the sale of outdated oil packets is spreading in many parts of Telangana, including major cities like Hyderabad. The increased consumption of refined oils in both urban and rural areas has created an opportunity for unethical traders to exploit the demand by selling expired products.

Even well-known branded companies have been accused of allowing expired stock to remain in circulation. Concerned consumers are now raising serious questions about the quality checks and supply chain management of these companies.

Companies Deny Responsibility

When questioned, representatives of the oil brands distanced themselves from the issue. Company officials stated that they do not instruct traders to sell expired goods and that such practices are beyond their control. However, consumer rights activists argue otherwise. According to a consumer forum spokesperson, companies have a clear responsibility to withdraw expired stock from the market well before the expiry date.

The activists stressed that companies must actively monitor their product flow and ensure expired goods are not sold to the public. They added that both the negligent traders and the companies that fail to recall expired items should face strict penalties.

Public Demand for Stringent Action

The growing anger among the public reflects a serious concern about food safety and regulatory oversight. Citizens are calling for immediate inspections and severe punishment for those involved in the sale of expired essential goods. Authorities must act quickly to prevent such dangerous practices from spreading further and to ensure that consumer safety remains a top priority.
