Government doctors in Telangana have expressed growing dissatisfaction over long-pending financial dues. Despite repeated representations, payments related to arrears, allowances, and pension contributions remain unresolved. The issue has drawn renewed attention following strong remarks by senior representatives of the teaching doctors’ body.
Association Raises Voice
The concerns were articulated by Kiran Madala, president of the Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association. He stated that doctors were compelled to press publicly for their legitimate entitlements after years of inaction by the authorities. According to him, the situation has caused widespread frustration within the medical community.
Arrears Still Pending
At the core of the dispute are arrears arising from the UGC Pay Revision Commission. These dues have remained unpaid since 2016. Although the State government issued orders in 2024 promising phased payment in instalments, implementation has been slow. Meanwhile, doctors have submitted multiple bills, but only a few instalments have been credited so far.
Dearness Allowance Delay
In addition, pending dearness allowance payments have added to the financial strain. Allowances due from 2022 across four instalments have not been cleared. Association representatives estimate that individual doctors are owed amounts running into nearly Rs. 2 lakh. Therefore, rising living costs have further intensified the impact of the delay.
Pension Credit Issues
Concerns have also been raised over irregularities in contributory pension scheme credits. According to the association, many doctors have received only partial credits in their accounts. Contributions relating to earlier years remain unsettled, creating uncertainty about post-retirement financial security.
Withdrawals Remain Stalled
However, the problems extend beyond arrears and pensions. Doctors allege that partial withdrawal requests from provident fund and pension accounts remain pending for long periods. These delays, they say, restrict access to personal savings even during emergencies.
Administrative Response Questioned
Meanwhile, officials have maintained that substantial funds are being released each month towards pending liabilities. The association, however, contends that the situation on the ground does not reflect these claims. Representations submitted to senior health department officials have yet to yield tangible outcomes.
Impact on Healthcare
Therefore, doctors warn that unresolved financial stress could affect morale within public hospitals. With patient loads increasing and infrastructure constraints persisting, delays in dues add to professional pressure. The association has urged the government to expedite payments and address systemic delays to ensure stability in public healthcare services.
