- A Special Interview with Article Today
Article Today, Vizianagaram:
Rising steadily from grassroots politics to the Lok Sabha, Kalisetti Appalanaidu, Member of Parliament from Vijayanagaram, has carved a distinct identity through simplicity and commitment. Viewing power as responsibility rather than privilege, he speaks about governance, integrity, development, and his clear warning against land encroachments in this detailed interview with Article Today.
Article Today: It has been about one and a half years since you became an MP. How do you reflect on this journey?
Appalanaidu: I began my journey as an ordinary party worker. Getting the opportunity to represent my people in Parliament feels like the result of past merit. This is not merely a position. It is the trust reposed in me by the people. Raising the voice of Vijayanagaram in the Lok Sabha and questioning the Union government on public issues gives me deep satisfaction. Moreover, being among people every day and sharing their joys and hardships keeps me grounded.

Article Today: You had aspired for an MLA seat, yet you were given an MP ticket. How have you lived up to that trust?
Appalanaidu: That is true. I initially wished to contest as an MLA. However, Chandrababu Naidu placed his trust in me and gave me the opportunity to contest for Parliament. Fulfilling the responsibility assigned by the party is my duty as a disciplined worker. Over the past eighteen months, I have raised more than one hundred and twenty questions in Parliament. I have consistently pursued constituency-related issues. My focus has been on ensuring that development and welfare benefits reach every household. I am confident that I have upheld his trust fully.
Article Today: Politics is often criticised for becoming corrupt. What precautions do you follow?
Appalanaidu: For me, politics is public service, and public service is divine service. In an environment where politics is often perceived as polluted, I strictly adhere to transparency and simplicity. My office functions in a manner that is accessible to ordinary citizens. I firmly believe that authority is not about status but about responsibility. Therefore, I consciously stay away from extravagance and rely only on honesty as my strength.
Article Today: Is there any moment from this period that you will never forget?
Appalanaidu: Attending my first parliamentary session and standing among senior leaders from across the country as the representative of Vijayanagaram is unforgettable. Equally memorable are moments during constituency visits when people express warmth and say, “Sir, our work is done.” Such words remain etched in my heart.
Article Today: You are often seen cycling to Parliament. Critics say it is mere publicity. What is your response?
Appalanaidu: It is not for publicity. It is meant to convey a message. Delhi’s air pollution levels are alarming. Environmental protection is everyone’s responsibility. By cycling, I want to promote awareness about health and pollution-free living. Moreover, the bicycle is our party symbol, which makes it even more meaningful to me. Criticism is inevitable. However, I will never hesitate to do what I believe benefits society.
Article Today: What are the major achievements and development initiatives this year?
Appalanaidu: I have worked towards railway underpass projects and station modernisation in the constituency. Through the Nikhila Trust, financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 is being provided when a third child is a girl. In addition, substantial funds have been secured from the Centre for national highway expansion and for drinking water supply under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Efforts to fast-track the Bhogapuram Airport will significantly transform North Andhra. This project is expected to attract investments worth thousands of crores and generate large-scale employment.
Article Today: What feedback have you received from Chandrababu Naidu regarding your performance?
Appalanaidu: Our leader always encourages those who work sincerely. He regularly enquires about the questions I raise in Parliament and the programmes conducted in the constituency. When he tells me, “You are working well, continue with the same spirit,” it gives me immense strength and motivation.
Article Today: What is your response to comments by Pawan Kalyan on land encroachments in North Andhra? What action will you take if such issues arise?
Appalanaidu: He has questioned systemic failures and illegal practices, which is not wrong. Everyone knows the extent of land scams that occurred in North Andhra during the previous regime. In our coalition government, there will be zero tolerance for such acts. I have clearly alerted the party cadre in Vijayanagaram. If any leader or worker adopts unlawful methods, strict action will certainly follow.
Article Today: What are your Priorities for 2026?
Appalanaidu: My primary goal is to promote industrial development in Vijayanagaram and create employment for local youth. I aim to ensure the completion of pending irrigation projects. In addition, completing the Bhogapuram Airport on a war footing is a priority. It will stand as a milestone in the development of North Andhra.
