Capsule Hotel Opens at Visakhapatnam Railway Station For Rest

Article Today, Visakhapatnam:
A modern capsule hotel has been inaugurated at the Visakhapatnam railway station to provide short-term rest facilities for train passengers. This is the first such initiative under the East Coast Railway Zone. Inspired by Japan’s capsule hotel concept, the new facility aims to offer clean, air-conditioned accommodation at affordable rates for travelers on the move.

Comfortable Stay with Affordable Pricing
The hotel, named “Sleeping Pods,” offers 73 single beds and 15 double beds. The cost for a single bed is Rs. 200 for three hours, and Rs. 400 for a 24-hour stay. A double bed costs Rs. 300 for three hours and Rs. 600 for 24 hours. Officials said this pricing makes the hotel a budget-friendly resting option for passengers waiting for connecting trains or arriving late at night.

Well-Designed Space Ensures Privacy and Convenience
Located on the first floor of Platform No. 1, the capsule hotel mimics the design of sleeper berths in train coaches. Beds are arranged in two tiers—upper and lower—with privacy curtains provided for each pod. The facility includes air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, hot water showers, and access to snacks, making it a convenient option for travelers needing short rest.

Special Arrangements for Women
The hotel includes 18 dedicated beds for female passengers to ensure safety and comfort. Railway officials stated that the inclusion of women-only beds was planned to cater to solo women travelers and families. Staff members are also available to assist and maintain cleanliness at the facility round the clock.

Inspired by Japan, Implemented in Vizag
The capsule hotel concept was first popularized in Japan to accommodate travelers in compact urban spaces. Visakhapatnam becomes the first station in the region to adopt this model. Officials believe this will not only improve passenger comfort but also modernize the image of Indian railway stations.

Positive Response from Travellers
Since its launch, the facility has received encouraging feedback. Many passengers have appreciated the quiet environment, hygienic amenities, and the convenience of short-stay options. Railway authorities plan to review the success of this model and explore similar setups at other major stations across the zone.

A Step Forward in Passenger Comfort
With increasing passenger footfall at railway stations, facilities like the capsule hotel mark a significant step in improving travel experience. Railway officials expressed hope that the new service would set a benchmark for passenger amenities and become a model for other stations in India.
