Article Today, Hyderabad:
The hearing on ticket pricing for the Telugu film OG in the Telangana High Court on Friday drew attention with remarks from senior advocate Niranjan Reddy. Representing the film’s producers, he stated that audiences should watch movies only when prices are affordable to them. He questioned why a petitioner wanted to see a film on the first day but at a price of his choice. His comments have since circulated widely on social media.
Comparisons with Other Events
Mr. Reddy further argued that no one approaches courts demanding reduced prices for other entertainment events. He pointed to examples such as coffee at five-star hotels priced at Rs. 500, tickets for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s shows costing thousands, and Indian Premier League (IPL) match tickets priced at Rs. 1,500. He said cinema tickets alone are subjected to government regulation, while other events are allowed to set their own rates.
Court’s Interim Stand
After hearing submissions from both sides, the High Court reiterated its earlier order that ticket prices for OG cannot be increased. The bench noted that the single-judge order staying the hike would remain in effect. The court adjourned further hearing to October 9 and directed the government to file a counter, explaining why higher rates should be permitted. The ruling left the producers disappointed.
Record Collections Reported
Meanwhile, the production company DVV Entertainment announced that OG grossed over Rs. 154 crore worldwide on its opening day. A poster released by the company highlighted the figure, describing it as a milestone for lead actor Pawan Kalyan. The film also reportedly entered the list of the top ten highest-grossing opening days for Indian films, with significant contributions from premiere shows.
