Apple ‘Air’…. Quality Fail… – Thinnest iPhone Faces Performance Issues

Article Today, Hyderabad:
Apple ’s latest addition, the iPhone Air, has drawn attention for its ultra-thin build. At just 5.6 millimetres, the device is among the slimmest smartphones in the market. Its titanium frame and frosted matte glass back add to the premium appeal. However, the aesthetic design has not translated into overall performance.

Battery Life Falls Short
The company claimed up to 27 hours of video playback, but real-world usage tells a different story. Regular activities such as social media browsing, calls, and short videos drained the battery within ten hours. Even with adaptive power mode, the device struggled to last more than half a day. Apple suggests an additional MagSafe battery pack priced at Rs. 8,200, but this undermines the device’s thinness and convenience.

Overheating Issues Reported
Another concern is excessive heating. Users have experienced the phone warming up even during light usage. Demanding tasks such as gaming or video editing become impractical. The issue has also raised questions about the device’s long-term durability.

Audio and Multimedia Limitations
The iPhone Air features a single speaker, which restricts sound quality. For a device aimed at multimedia users, this proves disappointing. Video playback and editing are also hindered due to both the heating and the limited battery life.

Price Comparison and Alternatives
The 256 GB model of the iPhone Air is priced at Rs. 82,000, while the 1 TB variant reaches Rs. 1,15,000. In comparison, the iPhone 17, at Rs. 65,600, offers better battery performance and dual cameras. The iPhone 17 Pro, priced at Rs. 90,200, provides advanced thermal systems and superior cameras. Analysts suggest that these alternatives deliver higher value for money.

A Niche Device for Select Users
The iPhone Air stands as a bold experiment in design and may influence future foldable devices. Yet, its limitations make it less suitable for heavy users. Experts note that it caters mainly to buyers who prioritise style over functionality, while mainstream consumers may find the iPhone 17 series more reliable.
