- Urea Shortage Appeal Made Earlier to Union Fertilizer Minister
- Minister Tummala Addresses to Union Minister Kishan Reddy
Article Today, Hyderabad: Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has written a letter to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, urging swift action to resolve the ongoing urea shortage in the state. The letter highlights the serious concerns surrounding the availability of urea, a key fertilizer during the current agricultural season. Minister Tummala requested the Centre to ensure timely supply of Telangana’s monthly urea quota. He stressed the urgent need for cooperation, pointing out that any further delay could severely affect farmers and their crops.
Centre’s Shortfall Alarming, Says State
In his letter, the state minister expressed disappointment over the reduced monthly allocations from the Centre. Despite regular requests, the union government reportedly failed to supply the full quantity of urea allotted to Telangana.
Tummala warned that if the current shortfall continues, farmers may face difficulties in the upcoming sowing season. The state government is already taking measures to maintain buffer stocks, but without adequate supply from the Centre, those efforts are proving insufficient.
Appeals Made Earlier to Union Fertilizer Minister
The Telangana government has repeatedly raised this issue with the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Tummala noted that several earlier letters had been sent to Union Minister J.P. Nadda, yet the situation remains unresolved. He urged the Union government to act responsibly and fulfill Telangana’s rightful share of urea, especially during a critical stage of crop cultivation.
Shortfall in Numbers Raises Concern
For the month of June, the Centre allocated 1.71 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Telangana. However, only 67,000 metric tonnes have been supplied so far. The state also reported that, for April and May combined, the supply fell short by 1.21 lakh metric tonnes. Overall, in the past three months, Telangana has not received 2.25 lakh metric tonnes of urea that was due. The minister called this shortfall a serious setback to the state’s agricultural preparedness.
Farmers Left Waiting Amid Delays
As the kharif season progresses, farmers are expressing concern over dwindling urea stocks. The state government has been trying to ensure timely distribution, but unless the Centre accelerates supplies, the shortage could disrupt farming activities across major agricultural districts. The Telangana government now awaits a positive response from the Centre to avoid any agricultural crisis.
