A new Greenfield Express Highway from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam is set to open by August next year. Officials confirmed that the highway will be ready for public use before the Sankranti festival. The road will significantly reduce the distance between the two cities by 56 kilometers. This faster route is expected to benefit not only Visakhapatnam travelers’ but also people from Rajahmundry and nearby areas.

Painful Journey Will Soon End

The present route from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam is long and challenging. Travellers face heavy traffic and frequent delays. The new highway will offer a smoother and more comfortable alternative. Once completed, the expressway will solve many of the travel problems faced on the current route.

New Route Through Khammam and Devarapalli

The new highway will stretch from Khammam in Telangana to Devarapalli in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. The road covers approximately 162 kilometers. This direct route will reduce both travel time and distance. It will make travel between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam faster and more efficient.

Project Timeline and Delays

The expressway project began in September 2022 with a budget of Rs. 2,200 crore. The initial plan was to complete the work by 2024. However, delays in land acquisition have pushed the completion date. Presently, it takes almost 12 hours to cover the 619-kilometre distance between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada.

Bypassing Vijayawada for Faster Travel

The new expressway will allow vehicles to skip Vijayawada. Travellers from Suryapet can drive directly through Khammam and parts of East Godavari district to reach Visakhapatnam. This shortcut will save considerable time and fuel for both passengers and transporters.

Key Structures Along the Highway

The highway covers 89 kilometers within Telangana. It includes nine major bridges, 124 small bridges, and 117 underpasses. Important towns along the route include Khammam, Wyra, Kallur, and Sathupalli in Telangana. In Andhra Pradesh, the highway will pass near Tiruvuru, Jangareddygudem, Guravaigudem, and Devarapalli.

Regional Growth and Connectivity

The expressway is expected to strengthen regional connectivity. It will also improve trade and transport between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Officials are working to complete the final phase quickly and aim to open the highway to the public by August.
