– Rise of Fake Doctors in Telangana
– Illegal Clinics in Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Nizamabad
– Some Officials Involved in the Scam
Article Today, Hyderabad:
In Telangana, unqualified people are pretending to be doctors and running clinics and hospitals without proper licenses. These fake doctors are playing with people’s health and lives. Recent inspections in districts like Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, and Nizamabad have revealed how serious and widespread this issue is. Even though actions are being taken, these illegal practices are still continuing due to the negligence and corruption of some officials.
10 Illegal Hospitals Seized in Khammam
In Khammam district, a big scam involving fake doctors was exposed during surprise raids by the Telangana Medical Council and the Drugs Control Administration (DCA). Cases were filed against 41 fake doctors, and 10 illegally-run hospitals were shut down. People with no medical qualifications were running clinics and treating patients. Some RMPs (Registered Medical Practitioners) and PMPs (Private Medical Practitioners) were treating patients far beyond their qualifications, risking lives.
Illegal Clinics Busted in Suryapet
In Suryapet, fake clinics and doctors were found to be openly operating. In one case, DCA officials raided a fake clinic in Nayanagar, Kodad, and seized medicines worth ₹1.5 lakh, including antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-ulcer drugs. These were stored without a license and could pose serious risks to people’s health. There were also corruption allegations against some private hospitals in Suryapet. The health department conducted sudden inspections. Under Dr. Rathod’s leadership, the team reviewed documents and doctor qualifications. They found four hospitals violating rules and submitted a report to the state health director. As a result, the district medical officer was transferred.
Fake Doctors in Nalgonda and Nizamabad
In Nalgonda, Telangana Medical Council filed cases against 14 health centers. Some former compounders had become “doctors” using fake certificates. In Nizamabad, two fake doctors were caught. One was treating eye patients without being a certified ophthalmologist in Khaleelwadi, and another was running a “first aid hospital” illegally near Bodhan bus stand. Cases have been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
Danger from Fake Medicines
Along with fake doctors, the issue of fake medicines is also growing in Telangana. In 2024, DCA seized fake medicines worth ₹11.32 crore. In Siddipet district’s Biotech Park, a gang making fake antibiotics for export was caught. Fake medicines —from paracetamol to cancer drugs—are entering the market and endangering public health.
Negligence and Corruption of Officials
Even though action is being taken, the negligence and corruption of some officials are making the situation worse. In Suryapet, there were allegations of misuse of COVID funds and illegal approvals given to hospitals in exchange for money. The Medical Council has identified around 400 fake doctors across the state, but many illegal clinics are still running openly.
Public Awareness is Essential
Authorities say that public alertness is very important to stop fake doctors and clinics. People should check if the doctor is registered with NMC (National Medical Commission) or SMC (State Medical Council), and verify hospital licenses. They also warned about fake doctors spreading health tips on social media to attract people.
