Controversy Erupts in Telangana Over Pawan Kalyan Remarks

Pawan Kalyan's Remarks on Telangana

Article Today, Hyderabad:

A political controversy broke out in Telangana on Wednesday following remarks made by Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on the people of the State. His reference to “apathy” in connection with Telangana drew sharp reactions from Congress leaders, who said the comments were offensive and unacceptable. The issue quickly escalated into a full-fledged political confrontation.

Telangana Leaders demanded apology from Pawan Kalyan

Congress Leaders Seek Apology
Telangana Congress leaders demanded an immediate apology from Mr. Kalyan. State Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy strongly objected to the remarks and said such statements hurt public sentiment. He stated that an apology was necessary to restore dignity to the people of Telangana. He also rejected the narrative linking public health issues to public behaviour and blamed governance failures for problems related to fluoride contamination.

Warning Over Film Releases
The Minister further warned that Mr. Kalyan’s films would not be allowed to be screened in Telangana if the apology was not issued. He said the warning was being issued in his official capacity. The remarks added a cultural and commercial dimension to the political dispute and intensified the public debate.

Strong Reactions From Party Leaders
Meanwhile, other Congress leaders also reacted sharply. MLC Balmuri Venkat expressed anger over the comments and said such statements would not be tolerated in Telangana. Congress MP Chamal Kiran Kumar Reddy linked the controversy to political developments in Andhra Pradesh and criticised Mr. Kalyan’s leadership style. Jadcherla MLA Janampalli Anirudh Reddy also demanded an unconditional apology and questioned Mr. Kalyan’s political conduct while operating from Telangana.

BRS Maintains Silence
In contrast, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi has not issued any formal statement on the controversy so far. The silence of BRS leaders, who usually respond quickly to political developments, has surprised political observers. Their absence from the debate has become a subject of fresh political discussion within the State.

Focus Shifts to Inter-State Relations
In addition, the Congress leadership has described the remarks as capable of creating unnecessary friction between the two Telugu States. Minister Vakiti Srihari said Mr. Kalyan had benefited politically and economically from Telangana and should act responsibly. He urged the actor-politician to maintain restraint in public discourse.

Political Tensions Expected to Continue
Therefore, with demands for an apology growing and warnings being issued, political tension is expected to continue in the coming days. The response from Mr. Kalyan is awaited, as parties prepare for further political mobilisation over the issue.
