Palla Venkat Reddy Elevated as CPI National Secretary

The Communist Party of India (CPI) accorded significant representation to Telangana at its 25th national congress held in Chandigarh. Senior leader Palla Venkat Reddy from Nalgonda district was elected as a national secretary, filling the position vacated by former MP Syed Aziz Pasha. Party units in the State welcomed the development as an elevation of Telangana leadership to the national stage.

Journey from Student Politics
Mr. Venkat Reddy began his political career with the All India Students’ Federation. He later represented CPI in the undivided Nalgonda district and served as a mandal parishad president. In 2004, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Munugode constituency. He also functioned as the assistant secretary of the CPI Telangana unit. His election to the post of national secretary is seen as a culmination of long organisational experience.

Sambasiva Rao and Padma Re-elected
CPI Telangana State secretary and legislator Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao retained his place in the party’s national executive. Pasya Padma, general secretary of the Telangana Rythu Sangham, also continued as a member of the executive. In addition, M.D. Yusuf from Telangana was elected to the party’s Control Commission, which oversees discipline and organisational matters. He will also serve as a permanent invitee to the national council.

Wider Representation from Telangana
Altogether, ten leaders from Telangana secured positions in the CPI national council. Along with Mr. Venkat Reddy, Mr. Sambasiva Rao and Ms. Padma, other members include Takkellapalli Srinivas Rao, E.T. Narasimha, B. Hemant Rao, Kalavena Shankar, M. Bala Narasimha, and S.K. Sabir Pasha. Mr. Pasha has been elected to the national council for the first time. Palmakula Jangaiah was included as a candidate member.

Narayana to Head Control Commission
In organisational elections, Dr. K. Narayana from Andhra Pradesh was chosen as chairman of the CPI Central Control Commission. The commission, with eleven members drawn from various States, also elected Ram Baheti as its secretary. Alongside Dr. Narayana, Telangana’s M.D. Yusuf and Andhra Pradesh’s P. Durga Bhavani are among its members.

Stronger Voice at the National Level
With the new appointments, Telangana leaders are expected to have a stronger voice in the CPI’s national policy decisions. Party units in the State expressed satisfaction that senior functionaries had been entrusted with key organisational responsibilities.
