Ganesh Idol in CM Revanth Reddy’s Attire Sparks Debate

Article Today, Hyderabad:
A Ganesh pandal set up in Aghapura, Hyderabad, has become the focus of attention during the ongoing festivities. The idol of Lord Ganesh has been installed in the attire of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, wearing a shirt, trousers, shoes, and a scarf draped around the neck. The initiative was taken by Telangana Fisheries Federation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar, who described it as a tribute to the Chief Minister.

Symbolism on Display
The pandal prominently carries the slogan “Telangana Rising,” a theme associated with the State government. Beside the idol, a display of the Telangana map with the number one, along with images of Mr. Revanth Reddy, has also been placed. The organisers said the idol symbolises the wish that obstacles in the Chief Minister’s path should be removed, while also highlighting his efforts for the State.

Precedents from the Past
Mr. Sai Kumar pointed out that similar thematic idols and pandals had been installed in the past, including those inspired by film actors and movies such as RRR. He maintained that the present installation was not intended as political propaganda but was an expression of admiration for the Chief Minister.

Reactions on Social Media
The idol has triggered sharp reactions across social media platforms. Supporters have viewed it as a symbolic gesture of respect, while critics argue that it amounts to politicising a religious festival. The installation has also prompted debate on whether such displays blur the line between cultural celebration and political messaging.

Festival Turns Political Talking Point
What was intended as a festive installation has now become a political talking point in the State. With differing interpretations emerging, the idol has drawn both appreciation and criticism, reflecting how cultural events increasingly intersect with political narratives in Telangana.
