Ragging Incident at Rajahmundry Sri Chaitanya Hostel

  • 10th Class Student Allegedly Burned with an Iron Box
  • Parents Blame Hostel Management for Negligence

Article Today, Rajahmundry:
A 16-year-old student of Sri Chaitanya hostel at Morampudi in Rajahmundry has reportedly suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by senior students. The boy, identified as Gurram Vincent Prasad from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, was allegedly subjected to ragging that left him with serious burn wounds.

Injuries from Iron Box Burns
According to doctors, the student sustained deep burns on his stomach and arms. Senior students are said to have pressed a heated iron box on his body. Following the assault, the boy collapsed and was immediately shifted by his parents to the Rajole Government Hospital, where he is undergoing emergency treatment. His condition remains critical, doctors said.

Management Under Scrutiny
Parents alleged that despite repeated complaints, the hostel management failed to act on the threats and harassment faced by the victim. The boy’s mother, Lakshmi Kumari, stated that her appeals for help went unanswered. Even after the incident, the management reportedly tried to suppress information instead of addressing the matter. This has drawn sharp criticism from local residents and activists, who accused the authorities of negligence.

Threats from Seniors
Family members claimed that the seniors not only assaulted Vincent but also threatened to kill him if he revealed the incident. The intimidation, they said, shows that the assault went far beyond ragging and has caused severe physical and psychological harm.

Public Demand for Action
The incident has triggered widespread concern about safety in private hostels. Citizens have urged the State government to intervene and ensure strict enforcement of anti-ragging measures. They also demanded stringent action against the culprits and accountability from the hostel management.
