CPI Veteran Suravaram Passes Away

Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former Member of Parliament Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy passed away in Hyderabad on Friday night. He had been undergoing treatment for illness at a private hospital. His death is seen as an irreparable loss to the communist movement and to the working class.

Early Years of Struggle
Born on March 25, 1942, in Mahabubnagar district, Sudhakar Reddy showed leadership qualities from a young age. At just fifteen, he led a campaign in his school demanding blackboards and books. He pursued a Bachelor of Arts at Osmania College and later obtained a law degree from Osmania University.

Dedicated to Communist Politics
Reddy devoted his entire political life to the CPI. He served in several key positions, including Andhra Pradesh State Council secretary and member of the national executive committee. Between 2012 and 2019, he guided the party as its national general secretary. He represented Nalgonda constituency twice in the Lok Sabha and voiced people’s concerns in Parliament.

A Lifelong Fighter for the Poor
From his student days to the Telangana armed struggle, Reddy stood by people’s causes. He fought tirelessly for the rights of workers and the poor until his last breath. His understanding of international issues and his long political experience made him a respected voice in Indian politics. His integrity and selfless service continue to inspire young activists.

Outpouring of Condolences
His death has left political circles and party ranks in deep sorrow. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock and said his passing is a great loss to the working class and to the communist movement. Former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao also offered condolences. CPI general secretary D. Raja, CPI secretary K. Narayana, CPM general secretary M. A. Baby, CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao and CPM state secretary John Wesley joined in mourning the veteran leader. Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy’s lifelong service and struggles will remain etched in the political history of the Telugu states.
