Crackdown on ‘Srushti’ IVF Scam: Telangana Government Steps In

Article Today, Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha has taken serious note of the irregularities surrounding the ‘Srushti’ Fertility Centre in Secunderabad. Following public outrage over the reported child trafficking racket, the Minister directed health department officials to identify and act against those responsible, including medical authorities who were directly or indirectly involved.

He has asked for a comprehensive report on the issue and warned that strict action would follow against all those found guilty. Speaking to Article Today, the Minister stated that the state government is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.

Human Rights Commission Initiates Probe

The shocking revelations around Srushti have triggered widespread concern across both Telugu states. Responding to the severity of the case, the Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance and launched an independent investigation.

The fertility centre reportedly lured childless couples by promising children through IVF and surrogacy procedures but was instead allegedly involved in illegal child sales. Police have already registered a case against the hospital, bringing the centre under intense scrutiny.

Fertility Centres Under the Scanner

Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal districts together house nearly 200 fertility clinics. While some operate within legal frameworks, several others have been found to flout rules and licensing conditions. Vice-Chairman of the Medical Council, Dr. Srinivas, stressed that district medical officers are responsible for continuous surveillance of such centres. He questioned how Srushti could continue operations even after its license was reportedly revoked.

Officials Deny Involvement, Blame Others

Amid growing criticism, several district medical officers are attempting to distance themselves from the scandal. Some argue they have no connection to the illegalities, despite Srushti’s aggressive advertising campaigns and high-volume operations.

Allegations have emerged that large sums were being collected from multiple fertility centres, though officials insist there is no concrete proof. Critics, however, argue that corruption rarely leaves a paper trail—suggesting that denying wrongdoing does not absolve responsibility.

200 Patient Records Seized

Investigating officers have recovered around 200 registration files from the Srushti facility. Police revealed that Dr. Namrata, who headed the operations, handed over children to several couples using various methods in the past. Authorities are now tracing these couples and collecting their information. However, many of them have switched off their phones after the issue became public, reportedly fearing legal complications.

Other Branches Under Watch

Further police investigation has uncovered that Srushti was not limited to one location. Branches were found operating in Kukatpally and Kondapur as well. These centres too are now under the scanner. The Telangana government has vowed to expose the full network and ensure that those exploiting desperate families in the name of fertility treatment are brought to justice.
