Tensions Within Jana Sena Over Nagababu’s Cabinet Berth?

Nagababu’s Ministerial Fate Remains Uncertain

Article Today, Amaravati: Speculation over Nagababu’s possible entry into the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet continues to stir debate. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s recent remarks have added a new twist to the narrative. Though many expected clarity on whether Nagababu would be made a minister, Pawan’s guarded response raised more questions than answers.

The Decision Lies With Pawan Kalyan
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu earlier announced that Nagababu would be inducted into the Cabinet. In line with that, Nagababu was nominated as an MLC from Jana Sena. Despite a cabinet vacancy remaining unfilled, Pawan Kalyan’s statement that the decision rests entirely with him has taken political circles by surprise. His reluctance to act on the earlier commitment suggests deeper calculations behind the scenes.

Is a Central Minister Post the Real Aim?
Political analysts suggest that Pawan Kalyan may be eyeing a central cabinet berth for his brother. According to sources, he believes that giving the remaining AP cabinet post to a backward class leader would balance social representation. If Nagababu becomes both an MLC and a minister, it may appear as political nepotism—especially when critics could point out that both brothers hold power. This perception, observers believe, may be deterring Pawan from acting swiftly.

Alternatives: Rajya Sabha or Party Role?
Nagababu’s path to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh is blocked until 2026 unless an alternate route is explored. One theory suggests he may be nominated from another state under BJP quota and later inducted into the Union Cabinet. If not, he could remain an MLC and wait for the 2026 Rajya Sabha openings. In the meantime, there is a possibility he might be assigned key party responsibilities, focusing on constituency visits and strengthening the organisational base.

Doubts Over Nagababu’s Political Commitment
Concerns are also being raised about whether Nagababu is fully invested in active politics. Critics say his lack of a permanent base in Andhra Pradesh and limited public engagement may work against his ministerial prospects. Pawan Kalyan is said to be wary of backlash if Nagababu is given a post and fails to perform effectively. This apprehension, political insiders say, may be holding him back.

Rift Within the Family?
Reports also hint at a possible strain between the two brothers. Nagababu is reportedly not pleased with Pawan’s silence on the matter. Comparisons are being drawn with the TRS era in Telangana, where KCR, KTR and Harish Rao held significant roles. Supporters argue that having two brothers in the Cabinet should not be an issue if both are capable. However, the final call, it seems, still rests with Pawan Kalyan.
