Regional Ring Rail to Ease Hyderabad Traffic

Article Today, New Delhi: In a decisive move to strengthen Telangana’s infrastructure, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Union government to approve key railway projects in the state. During a meeting with Union Railway and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of railway connectivity to support the state’s rapid industrial and technological growth.

Ring Rail to Complement Ring Road

The Chief Minister highlighted the proposal for a Regional Ring Rail project to run parallel to the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road. He noted that the Railway Board had already approved the Final Location Survey (FLS) for this ambitious project. Estimated at nearly ₹8,000 crore, the project aims to boost connectivity across the city’s outskirts. Revanth Reddy requested the Centre to clear this proposal swiftly, citing its critical role in decongesting Hyderabad’s main stations.

Boosting Rural-Urban Linkages

Explaining the benefits of the Regional Ring Rail, the Chief Minister said the project would enhance integration between rural and urban areas. Besides reducing pressure on city traffic, it would help alleviate rural poverty and create employment opportunities in nearby towns. He added that the rail line would serve as a growth corridor, supporting balanced regional development. Revanth also requested approval for a direct railway line from Hyderabad Dry Port to a nearby sea port to facilitate faster logistics.

Proposals for New Rail Routes

To further expand rail infrastructure, Revanth submitted several new route proposals to the Union Minister. These included:

  • Vikarabad to Krishna (122 Km, Rs.2,677 crore)
  • Kalwakurthy to Macherla (100 Km, Rs.2,000 crore)
  • Dornakal to Gadwal (296 Km, Rs.6,512 crore)
  • Dornakal to Miryalaguda (97 Km, Rs.2,184 crore)

The Chief Minister urged that these routes be approved with 100% funding from the Railway Ministry, especially since they connect backward regions and are essential for boosting industrial and agricultural trade.

Telangana Ready for National Development Push

Revanth Reddy emphasized Telangana’s readiness to support national goals in innovation, research, and economic expansion. He said the state is home to cutting-edge R&D centre and has an ideal ecosystem for high-tech sectors such as semiconductors and electronics. He concluded that improved railway infrastructure would further unlock the state’s potential as a strategic industrial and logistics hub.
