CBI Probes Dr. Rajini Reddy in NMC Bribery Case

Article Today, Hyderabad: Dr. Rajini Reddy, former superintendent of the Modern Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj, has been named in the CBI ‘s probe into a major corruption racket linked to the National Medical Commission (NMC). The case involves alleged illegal approvals granted to private medical colleges in violation of NMC norms.

Insider Role in Inspection Team
Dr. Reddy served as a member of the NMC’s inspection team. On June 30, she was part of the panel that visited Sri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SRSIMSR) in Chhattisgarh. On the same day, the CBI conducted surprise raids, exposing irregularities in the inspection process. Following the developments, she was listed as the 13th accused in the FIR filed by the central agency.

Petition Filed in Chhattisgarh High Court
In response to the allegations, Dr. Reddy approached the Chhattisgarh High Court. Speaking to The New Indian Express, she stated that the CBI may call her as a witness. She added that three individuals had already been arrested in connection with bribery during inspections. The FIR was registered in Raipur and investigations are ongoing.

Wider Network under Investigation
According to the CBI, the case involves 34 individuals, including eight officers from the Union Ministry of Health, one official from the National Health Authority, and five doctors from NMC inspection teams. The accused are suspected of colluding with private medical colleges to manipulate inspection outcomes for personal gain.

Leaked Inspection Plans through Secret Network
The probe revealed a covert network of officials within the Health Ministry who leaked inspection schedules and team details to brokers connected with colleges. This allowed the institutions to prepare for inspections in advance by employing fake faculty, dummy patients, and tampered biometric records.

A Threat to Medical Education Integrity
The scam highlights deep-rooted flaws in the regulation of India’s medical education sector. The use of fraudulent means to secure college approvals raises serious concerns about the credibility of the system. The CBI’s investigation continues to unravel the extent of the malpractice and the officials involved.
