Article Today, New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday urged Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J.P. Nadda to ensure the timely supply of urea to the state. During his visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister met the Union Minister at his residence and explained the challenges being faced by farmers due to the shortage.
Kharif Season Troubles Farmers
Mr. Reddy highlighted that the ongoing Kharif season has seen a rise in agricultural activity, but the urea shortage is creating serious difficulties for farmers. While Telangana required five lakh metric tonnes of urea from April to June, only 3.07 lakh metric tonnes were supplied. He expressed concern over the growing anxiety among farmers due to this shortfall.
July Supplies Remain Incomplete
The Chief Minister pointed out that Telangana needs 63,000 metric tonnes of domestically produced urea and 97,000 metric tonnes of imported urea for July. However, only 29,000 metric tonnes have been delivered so far. He urged the Centre to release the remaining stock immediately, warning that the shortage could disrupt agricultural progress, especially when irrigation sources are active across the state.
Shortfall in Domestic Quota and Rail Transport
Mr. Reddy requested the Union Minister to increase Telangana’s domestic urea quota. He also raised concerns over delays in rail rake allocations, which are essential for transporting urea. The Chief Minister said the lack of cooperation from the Railway Ministry was further slowing down the supply chain and worsening the situation on the ground.
State MPs, Officials Join the Appeal
The meeting was attended by Telangana Government Advisor A.P. Jithender Reddy, Members of Parliament Dr. Mallu Ravi and Chamal Kiran Kumar Reddy, along with other senior officials. Together, they supported the Chief Minister’s request and appealed for urgent central intervention to ease the burden on the farming community.
